The impact of social media on adolescents is a topic that is frequently explored and talked about. In today’s technology-obsessed society, it is an undeniable issue that social media has the power to influence the way that young people perceive themselves and others. Due to their lack of life experience and self-knowledge, adolescents are easily susceptible to becoming a victim of the mental damage that social media can cause.

The American Academy of Paediatrics conducted a poll that showed that “22% of teenagers log on to their favourite social media site more than 10 times a day, and more than half of adolescents log on to a social media site more than once a day” (2011). This overly frequent exposure to social media shows just how addictive these sites can be, and increases the likelihood of teenagers becoming negatively influenced or bullied online.

Students aged between 15 and 22 years old were surveyed on several topics regarding social media. The results are displayed on the info graph shown.
